Sometimes there isn’t a whole lot to say other than I’m sorry, but my family comes first.

I haven’t always lived life that way.  I put such a premium on running a good business, sticking to my word, and making sure customers don’t want for much at all in regards to their online presence.  But, as my boys are getting older, I’ve recognized there have been times where I’ve put them second.

That’s not something I’m willing to do any longer.

So, if you’re a client, or thinking of becoming one, know this:  My family comes first.  I will go above and beyond in every way that I can.  Your business is extremely important to me.  And I really enjoy working on great projects.

But I cannot, and will not, allow my children to grow up thinking that their dad loves his job more than he loves them.

So what does this mean?

It means that:

  • I’m no longer answering my phone all hours of the day.  If you have an emergency, leave me a message.  I’ll get it when I get in.
  • Phone consultations are no longer free.  Each customer gets adequate training sessions, and can plug into our weekly free sessions at our office to set up the help that they need.  But I am no longer available for free phone support on your project post-launch.  There is a support package that allows for unlimited calling, and if that is your preference, you can set that up at anytime.
  • It’s important for me to schedule vacation time.  My vacation will be clearly communicated.  But I will not be available during that time.  I will set up a communication path for emergencies, but I pride myself on making sure that are rarely emergencies.
  • In the past, I have allowed customers to postpone projects mid-stream as needed, and then start back up at their convenience.  This is no longer the case.  If you fail to meet your deadlines, it will not alter the price of the project, but it will alter the timeline.
  • It also means that in order to keep projects moving along, I’ve decided I will only work on three projects at a time.  By focusing on fewer projects at one time, I hope to increase efficiency, and cut down the development time.

    Right on Jomo! Those are also just good business practices. Everyone should uphold business practices that facilitates family first.
